Dr David Bourne

Dr David Bourne is a Senior Research Scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science. He has extensive experience as a microbiologist/microbial ecologist, with his research interests spread across a number of broad areas in marine microbiology. His work currently focuses on understanding microbial interactions with corals in two key areas: (1) investigating the normal microbial communities associated with corals and their functional roles in maintaining coral fitness; (2) elucidating pathogens and mechanisms of disease onset in corals and the implications this has on a stressed reef ecosystem, where changing climate is a major driver of coral reef degradation.
