Ocean Acidification

Dr Russell Richards is a Research Fellow at Griffith Centre for Coastal Management and Griffith Climate Change Response Program, Griffith University, Queensland. He is an ecological modeller who employs a suite of modelling techniques (Bayesian, individual-based, process-based, chemical speciation) to better understand salient coastal management issues. His research has largely focused on exploring the dynamic interrelationships between contaminants and sentinel organisms (e.g. oysters) within the context of a variable coastal environment. This modelling capacity has evolved into assessing the complexities of ocean acidification in the coastal zone, specifically on the impact that ocean acidification will have on the environmental fate of nutrients and heavy metals at different trophic levels.
