Professor Maria Byrne is in the Director of the University of Sydney?s One Tree Island Research Station in the Capricorn-Bunker Group of the southern Great Barrier Reef. Prof Byrne is expert in the biology and ecology of marine invertebrates with a focus on echinoderms and molluscs. Her research in Sydney has involved a broad range of studies in Marine Biology in projects ranging from the Great Barrier Reef, NSW and Antarctica. The focus of her current research is the influence of anthropogenic stressors from climate change ? ocean warming, acidification and hypercapnia on marine invertebrate life histories. This work addresses current urgent need to understand how marine biota and their progeny will respond to ocean change.
