Rob Harcourt

Marine Mammals  

Rob Harcourt, Professor of Marine Ecology at Macquarie University is the Facility Leader of the Australian Animal Tagging and Monitoring System, the ecosystem response component of Australia’s Integrated Marine Observing System and Head of the Marine Mammal Research Group at Macquarie University. He is a member of the National Marine Mammal Scientific Committee. His Phd from Cambridge University in the UK examined the influence of environmental variability on female reproductive strategies in South American fur seals in Peru. This has lead to a career investigating how marine animals respond to external influences, whether anthropogenic or natural variability. Rob has published over 115 papers, 86 reports and one book on different aspects of marine ecology and conservation and is particularly interested in the behavior and ecology of higher marine predators.
