Thomas is an ARC Future Fellow at the Oceans Institute at the University of Western Australia. His research focuses on ecological interactions involving macroalgae on and around subtidal temperate reefs and in estuaries. Thomas is particularly interested in perturbation ecology, and broad-scale comparisons. Increasingly, his research focuses on the nexus between physiology, ecology and biogeography, and the need to understand current and future patterns of global change (climate change, invasive species, eutrophication).
